Leona M. Archibald, 84, of Moline, died peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2009, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Hodgson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, we ask that memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Hospice of the Quad City Area or Heartland Health Care Center in Moline.
Mrs. Archibald was born May 4, 1924, in Rock Island, the daughter of Martin and Lulu Wierither Richeson. She married Jim D. Archibald on Sept. 24, 1949, at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
Leona was employed at Royal Neighbors of America and retired in 1986. She was a member of RNA Camp 281, Rock Island, and South Park Presbyterian Church. She had been a member of the Friendship King's Daughters and a member of the Central Illinois Home Office Underwriters Association.
Leona was a very avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, and she enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Jim, East Moline; two sons, Jay (Lori) Archibald, Middleburg, Fla., and Martin (Joyce) Archibald, Bettendorf; daughter Beth (Jim) Schrempf, Dubuque, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Jamie Archibald, Andrew Archibald, Brianne Archibald, James Archibald, Brooke Archibald, Christine Archibald, Benjamin (Jen) Schrempf, Ashlie Schrempf, Allison Schrempf, Jill Schrempf; and one great-granddaughter, Madelyn Schrempf. Her parents and a brother, Glen Richeson, preceded her in death.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation to the entire staff of Heartland Health Care Center for all the love and care that they provided for Leona over the last six years.
