1862 -- 150 years ago: Strawberries are being sold in this city for 8 cents a quart. There will soon be plenty at 5 cents.

1887 -- 125 years ago: Former Sheriff J. M. Reticker and his wife of Red Oak, Iowa, are visiting friends in the city this week.

1912 -- 100 years ago: The Black Hawk brick plant at Sears has been awarded a contract to furnish bricks for the construction of the new Masonic Temple in Rock Island.

1937 -- 75 years ago: Ray Sehnert, of Rock Island, and Joseph Schneider, of Moline, are among the six state police officers of District 7 who will enter the state marksmanship match this week at Springfield.

1962 -- 50 years ago: Plans for acquiring a site for a future junior high school in Milan are nearing the closing stage. This will be the second site purchased by the school board for a possible junior high school. The other site, located in east Rock Island, will be used as a football field this fall.

1987 -- 25 years ago: U.S. Rep. Lane Evans joined Vietnam Veterans of America in filing suit in federal court Friday to block the planned closing of counseling centers for Vietnam veterans.

1988 -- 25 years ago: Hampton's sesquicentennial committee and the Hampton HistoricalSociety have scheduled a full slate of activities, which will be held throughout the year, to celebrate the village's 150th birthday. The first celebration will be the Memorial Dayprogram at 10 a.m. May 30, at the Brettun and Black Store Museum on River Road. Therewill be a sesquicentennial display.
