Press release submitted by Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau

Quad Cities – The Quad Cities joins the new ten-state cooperative effort for the Summer of Paddling 2012 with its own series of paddling events on the Mississippi River for visitors and residents alike.

Located on the Mississippi River in the Midwest, the Quad Cities is comprised of Davenport and Bettendorf, Iowa; Rock Island and Moline/East Moline, Illinois; and surrounding communities. The Quad Cities is within a day's drive of several metropolitan areas such as Chicago, St. Louis, Des Moines, and Minneapolis.

The Summer of Paddling 2012 is a series of events in the 10 states that touch the Mississippi River designed to get Americans outside to enjoy the Mississippi River via canoe, kayak or other paddle craft, and take part in a summer full of paddling events on and near the river. All event details can be found at www.sop2012.org

Paddlers of any level can take part in events. Experienced paddlers from a variety of conservation agencies, not-for-profit organizations and adventure guide services will lead participants through the backwaters, bayous and braided streams of the Mississippi River.

The Summer of Paddling 2012 is an outcome of the Mississippi River Connections Collaborative (MRCC). The MRCC partners (Federal and State agencies working with non-governmental organizations) are striving to provide Americans and visitors from around the world with opportunities to experience the Mississippi River through recreational and stewardship programs.

The Summer of Paddling 2012 is aligned with the Presidential Initiative America's Great Outdoors, encouraging people to be active and get outside to experience nature.
