No agreement was reached between Nichols Aluminum and Teamsters Local 371 during talks Tuesday.

The next contract negotiations meeting is scheduled for July 12, said Nichols safety manager Dennis Hoaglin and Local 371 president Howard Spoon.

Mr. Hoaglin and Mr. Spoon declined to comment on Tuesday's negotiations.

Negotiations between Nichols and Teamsters began Oct. 6, 2011, with the contract expiring Nov. 15. Members worked without a contract until a strike began.

Teamsters members were on strike from Jan. 20 until April 6, two days after Nichols made more than 100 temporary employees permanent.

During the strike, Nichols continued to run its Davenport plants at 1725 Rockingham Road and 2101 J.M. Morris Blvd. with salaried staff and the temporary employees.

Mr. Spoon said about 60 to 65 percent of the approximately 225 members represented by the union are back to work, but he didn't have the specific number because it fluctuates as people leave or are

called back.

Those not working are on a preferential hiring list, with Nichols calling them as openings come up.

Mr. Spoon said he expects about six more union members to be called back this week because some temporary employees have left or been fired.

Between both plants, Mr. Hoaglin said Nichols has 230 employees. Nichols is a division of Houston-based Quanex Building Products and produces flat-rolled aluminum sheet metal.
