1862 -- 150 years ago: Our citizens may not be aware that there is a wounded soldier at Barney's Hotel, brought here from Pittsburg Landing. He is gradually sinking, perhaps beyond the reach of medical aid. He is far from his home and friends and needs the sympathy of our citizens.

1887 -- 125 years ago: The Rock Island City Council last night voted an appropriation of

$1,900 for the city's health commission.

1912 -- 100 years ago: Barney Brotman, newsboy warbler, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. Brotman of Rock Island, has returned from a 40,000-mile trip with Roney's Boys, a musical organization.

1937 -- 75 years ago: Western League baseball owners at a meeting today permitted Rock Island to drop out of the circuit for the rest of the season. Pat Collins, owner of the Rock Island club, requested the release because the team has been playing poor baseball and attracting small crowds.

1962 -- 50 years ago: Moline will hold its fifth annual Costume Parade on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. The parade is again being co-sponsored by the Hiland Businessmen's Association and the Moline Playground and Recreation Department.

1987 -- 25 years ago: The Mississippi Valley Blues Club could bank up to $80,000 from gate receipts for their two-day blues fest, with proceeds funding future blues concerts and a special grant to the Davenport Park Board. Nearly 40,000 people attended the third annual festival Friday and Saturday on the Davenport levee, club officials said Monday.

1988 -- 25 years ago: Hampton's sesquicentennial committee and the Hampton HistoricalSociety have scheduled a full slate of activities, which will be held throughout the year, to celebrate the village's 150th birthday. The first celebration will be the Memorial Dayprogram at 10 a.m. May 30, at the Brettun and Black Store Museum on River Road. Therewill be a sesquicentennial display.
