Examine ways to finance small business in BHC class

Small business owners can learn about the various sources for financing their projects by taking the Black Hawk College class "Financing Your Small Business."

The class will be from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at the Illinois workNet Center, 4703 16th St., Suite G, Moline. Cost is $50.

Relax, reconnect with BHC one-night class


Treat yourself to an evening of relaxation with the Black Hawk College class, "Mindful Meditation and Stress Management."

Learn how practical application of meditation can enhance your living and reduce stress, producing a sense of inner calm or peace. Disconnect from the outside world and reconnect with yourself.

The class will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the college's Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $24.

Get a basic understanding of quality with Quality 101



Discover fundamental quality principles and practices for success in an organization with the Black Hawk College course, "Quality 101."

This is a cost-effective, base-line quality training course. It can be used as an introduction of quality tools, a refresher training or general professional development. It also prepares individuals for the Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA) certification exam.

The class will meet Wednesdays, Oct. 10 to Nov. 14, from 6-9 p.m. at the college's Quad-Cities Campus in Moline. The cost is $395, which includes all materials.

Do you work long hours at a sedentary job with little time to relax and stretch?

Take the new BHC class, "Get Out of Your Seat and On Your Feet," and in one night learn stretches and relaxation methods that will help ease tension.

Choose from Thursday, Oct. 11 or Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 6-7 p.m. Both classes will be at the college's Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $12 per class.

Sign up for the "Help! Who? Where? When?" class at Black Hawk College and learn how to use a free online organizer that helps busy families keep organized.

The class will be from 8:30-11 a.m. Oct. 16 at the college's Outreach Center in East Moline. Cost is $28.

1864 -- 150 years ago: The ladies have adopted the fashion of wearing representations of insects in the flowers on their bonnets. Some look very natural.
1889 -- 125 years ago: T.F. Cary, former Rock Island alderman, has accepted a position as salesman for a Chicago wallpaper house and plans to move to that city.
1914 -- 100 years ago: Work on the new telephone building on 18th Street between 6th and 7th avenues is progressing rapidly.
1939 -- 75 years ago: Rock Island's new theater at 3rd Avenue and 19th Street will have a name significant of its location. The "Rocket" is scheduled to open Thanksgiving Day.
1964 -- 50 years ago: Two of Rock Island's newest water towers were vandalized last night, including the one at 38th Street and 31st Avenue, where police took five Moline boys into custody about 9 p.m..
1989 -- 25 years ago: Some of us who live in the Quad-Cities take the Mississippi River for granted, or at least we used to. But the river is not taken for granted by our visitors. And most Quad-Citians are realizing the importance of the river to this area as increased emphasis is placed on tourism.
