Get dining-tour books at Colona Library

Friends of the Colona Public Library are selling Quad Cities Dining Tour Books as a fundraiser for library programs. The $35 books include more than 300 buy-one, get-one free coupons for area restaurants. They are available at the library, 911 1st St., Colona. The library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Call (309) 792-0548.



Silvis doing hyrdrant flushing until Friday


The city of Silvis will be flushing hydrants throughout the city through Friday. Watch for the hydrant flushing in your area.

Euchre tournament will help Silvis Little League

The Silvis Little League will host a euchre tournament fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Hall, 800 17th St., Silvis. Doors open at 5:30.

The cost is $10 per person. Bring your own food, but no outside beverages will be allowed. A cash bar will be available.

Reservations, with a check payable to SAY, along with all names of participants, should be mailed to PO Box 16, Silvis, IL 61282, by today. Registration also can be done at the door.

Fulton hosting fall arts and crafts show

The Fulton Fall Festival Arts & Crafts Show will be held Saturday in downtown Fulton, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost to participate is $25 and includes a 10-foot by 10-foot space. The registration deadline is Friday. After this date, the fee will increase to $35. Colona boosters hosting fundraisers

The Colona School Booster club will host a trivia night and taco dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday. Doors open at 6. The cost is $10 per player, with up to eight players per team and no age requirements. Silvis Senior Citizens meet for lunch

Silvis Senior Citizens will meet at 12:30 p.m. Oct. 12 at Silvis United Methodist Church, 1301 2nd Ave., Silvis. There will be a catered chicken dinner for $7. Reservations are due by Monday. Schools hosting meeting on special-ed services

The East Moline and United Township school districts will hold a meeting at 6 p.m. Oct. 9 at 3555 19th St., East Moline, to discuss plans for providing special-education services to students with disabilities who attend private schools and home schools in the districts.

Parents of a home-schooled student who live in the districts and have been, or may be identified with, a disability, are urged to attend.

Vietnam vets to share stories at roundtable

The Port Byron Historical Society's Oct. 10 program will be a Vietnam Veteran's "roundtable" with vets discussing their branch of service, places they served and interesting and humorous experiences during the Vietnam War era.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the River Valley District Library, 214 S. Main St., Port Byron. The public is invited.

Get antiques appraised at Silvis Library

The Silvis Public Library, 105 8th St., will host free antique appraisals by certified appraiser Terri Applegate from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 10. People can bring in anything but weapons. Elections set for Carbon Cliff Sports Club

The Carbon Cliff Sports Club will hold elections from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Carbon Cliff concession stand on 1st Avenue. EM Little League sets officer elections

The East Moline Little League will elect officers for the 2013 season at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at East Moline City Hall, 915 16th Ave.

NAACP seeks vendors for Harvest Festival

The Rock Island County NAACP is seeking people interested in singing, selling crafts or setting up community organization and ethnic club booths at the annual Harvest Festival, to be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 13 at Hereford Park, 13th Street and 4th Avenue, East Moline.

The multicultural event will include family activities such as Celtic sports, a community choir, ethnic song and dance and various ethnic craft and food booths. Admission is free.

The goal is to get 100 people to sing in a community choir. The songs for this year are "We Are the World," and "Let it Be."

Hampton clinic offering flu shots

The Hampton Township Health Clinic, 209 19th St., East Moline, is offering free flu shots to Hampton Township residents 50 and older and residents with health complications, from 9 to 11 a.m. and noon to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays, and 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Craft, product show returns to Colona school

Colona PTA will sponsor its 11th annual Craft and Product Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Colona Grade School. Crafters and product sellers are sought to rent a booth at the event. A 10-by-8 feet booth is available for $20, and a 6-by-4 feet booth is $10. A limited number of tables with electricity are available for an additional $5. Ann's holding bingo fundraiser

Ann's Helping Hand, 805 S. High St., Port Byron, will hold a bingo fundraiser at 5 p.m. Oct. 21, at the Blu Shamrock in Cordova, with prizes such as wine, jewelry, ice cream, pizza, Avon and gift certificates. Burger baskets are $5, and desserts will be available, with free dessert to anyone who wears a Halloween costume. Bring food items for extra bingo cards. Proceeds will be used for Thanksgiving baskets.

Ann's also is seeking a wash machine and dryer, refrigerator, Halloween costumes, twin beds and bunk beds.

Shop hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Port Byron to rededicate historic rifle

The 1862 3-inch Griffen Ordnance Rifle, which used to stand in front of Port Byron's American Legion Hall, will be rededicated at a new, as yet unnamed location on Main Street in Port Byron on Nov. 11. The Legion hall recently was torn down to make way for a parking lot.

Go on a shopping bus trip to Schaumburg

The Friends of the East Moline Library are sponsoring a shopping bus trip on Nov. 18 to Woodfield Mall and IKEA. Cost for this bus trip will be $25. Call the library to reserve your spot at (309) 755-9614. Spots are filling fast.

Library board has openings

The River Valley District Library Board will have five seats open in the April election -- four four-year terms and one two-year seat. Anyone who is at least 18 years old who lives in the library district is eligible to run. Pick up an election packet at the library, 214 S. Main St., Port Byron, during regular library hours. Lighted Christmas Parade returning

The East Moline Main Street Business Association will hold its second downtown Lighted Christmas Parade at 6 p.m. Nov. 27, followed by a lighting of the 9th Street Commons.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will meet with children and pose with them for pictures at the American Legion, where Frosty's Chili Supper will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Donations will be accepted, with proceeds going toward new downtown holiday/Christmas decorations. Take a tour of River Valley District Library

River Valley District Library, 214 S. Main St., Port Byron is offering library tours at 6 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month. People should meet at the main lobby circulation desk.

During the tour, people will learn how to become a card member of the library, how to check out materials and the rules of the library. They also will observe some activities at the library. This is an all-ages tour. For information, call the library at (309) 523-3440.

Yoga offered 2 days each week in Port Byron
