Trivia night will help Honor Flight|
The Colona Park District is hosting a trivia-night fundraiser to raise money for Honor Flight of the Quad-Cities on Oct. 20, at Indian Trails Resort in Colona. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the games start at 6.

Professor to discuss book in Geneseo
Bill Griffin will discuss and sign his book, "Voices of the Hennepin Canal" at 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Geneseo Public Library. Mr. Griffin is professor emeritus of Western Illinois University's Geography Department. After his presentation, a representative of Friends of the Hennepin will discuss the Renaissance Hennepin Canal project. The event is free and open to the public.
Port Byron postpones rededication ceremony
Because of a delay in mounting Port Byron's 1862 3-inch Griffen Ordnance Rifle at its new location at Cherry and Main Streets in Port Byron, the rededication ceremony has been postponed to next spring.
When the village and American Legion complete mounting the cannon, there will be a rededication ceremony in which all veterans organizations, school groups, Scout units, historical societies or Civil War re-enactors and enthusiasts will be welcome to participate. Awareness Day event returns to church
The Rock Island County Home and Community Education Assn. will host its annual Awareness Day on Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 1717 8th Ave., Moline. There will be a Cultural Enrichment Show from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by a gourd presentation and a salad luncheon for a freewill donation.
Pick up some books at library sale
The Friends of the River Valley Library will hold their annual fall book sale Thursday through Saturday in the community room at the library, 214 S. Main St, Port Byron. Hours are 3 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday; 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday; and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Vietnam vets to share stories at roundtable
The Port Byron Historical Society's program tonight will be a Vietnam Veteran's "roundtable" with vets discussing their branch of service, places they served and interesting and humorous experiences during the Vietnam War era.

NAACP seeks vendors for Harvest Festival
The Rock Island County NAACP is seeking people interested in singing, selling crafts or setting up community organization and ethnic club booths at the annual Harvest Festival, to be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Hereford Park, 13th Street and 4th Avenue, East Moline.
The multicultural event will include family activities such as Celtic sports, a community choir, ethnic song and dance and craft and food booths. Admission is free.
The goal is to get 100 people to sing in a community choir. The songs for this year are "We Are the World" and "Let it Be."

Craft, product show returns to Colona school
Colona PTA will sponsor its 11th annual Craft and Product Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 20 at Colona Grade School. Crafters and product sellers are sought to rent a booth at the event. A 10-by-8 feet booth is available for $20, and a 6-by-4 feet booth is $10. A limited number of tables with electricity are available for an additional $5. Ann's Helping Hand, 805 S.
