Rather than beating your outdated or faulty electronic equipment to a pulp, as the characters in the 1999 flick "Office Space" did, you can watch them be torn apart -- and recycled! -- Thursday at the Electronic Demanufacturing Facility in Davenport.
Members of the public may tour the facility from 1 to 3 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and watch as their electronic waste items are torn apart so the pieces may be recycled, a news release states.
The free event, which is being hosted by theWaste Commission of Scott County and iLivehere Quad Cities, coincides withAmerica Recycles Day. For more information about the day, visit americarecyclesday.org.
"This is the first time we have invited residents to watch as we take apart their old electronics," said Keith Krambeck, special waste manager for Waste Commission of Scott County, in the release.
Mr. Krambeck said the Waste Commission's ultimate goal is to inspire people to recycle their electronics responsibly todivert "harmful materials from the landfill."
