CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) - A federal judge has sentenced a Bettendorf woman to over four years in prison for her role in a heroin overdose death.
The U.S. attorney's office says 25-year-old Melissa Edwards was sentenced in U.S. District Court on Thursday for conspiring to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin. She pleaded guilty in June.
Prosecutors say Edwards admitted she was aware of a customer's history of overdosing on heroin, but was involved in dealing the drug to that person in March 2011. That person used the heroin, overdosed and died.
Edwards was sentenced to 51 months in prison followed by five years of supervised release.
