The family of Joanne J. Carlin invites you to join them for a gathering to celebrate Joanne's life. Following her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. The family invites you to join them Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Crow Valley Golf Club, 4315 E. 60th St., Davenport, from 4:30 until 7 p.m. for a reception in her honor. Joanne died on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at her residence in Bettendorf surrounded by her loving family. She passed in the comfort of her home following a brief illness. Joanne Jane Osborn was born on July 6, 1934, in Davenport, a daughter of James Joseph and Elizabeth G. Collins Osborn. She was united in marriage to John J. Carlin on Aug. 31, 1957, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2008. She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Academy, and then attended and graduated from Rosary College, Oak Park, Ill. She earned a teaching degree from Rosary and had a brief, yet rewarding career in public education. She taught first in Iowa City and assisted children with special needs; this was an assignment she felt blessed to have had the opportunity to embark upon. She then taught in the Davenport Public School System. Soon after she and John began their family, and she was fortunate enough to be home with her four delightful children. Both Joanne and John were very civic minded, she volunteered at Holy Family School and was active with the PTA during the children's elementary years. John was the love of her life; they traveled extensively together and made many memories during these trips. They also wintered in Venice, Fla., something John enjoyed! Here, at her home in Bettendorf, she had many cherished memories; she found great comfort in her home. Her greatest love was her family, spending time with the kids and grandchildren made her life complete. She looked forward to time spent together, as well as the daily, "check in" from the kids. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Anthony's Catholic Church or to the Scott County Humane Society. Those left to honor her memory include, a son and daughter-in-law, James T. and Laversa Carlin, Eldridge; daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Steve Mahannah, Omaha, Neb., Mary and Porter McNeil, Moline, and Jennifer Suiter, Davenport; 10 beloved grandchildren, Andrea (Phil) Flannery, Sarah Carlin, Kaitlin Carlin, Meghan Mahannah, Molly Mahannah, James McNeil, Jack McNeil, Ellie McNeil, Matt Suiter, Michael Suiter and Mitch Suiter; three great-grandchildren, Noah Flannery, Brody Flannery and Scarlet Young; and numerous loving nieces; and nephews. In addition to her husband, John, she also was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Miller; and brothers, Gene Osborn and Ned Osborn. May they rest in peace.
