A King-size kid's Christmas party planned at King's Harvest DAVENPORT -- King's Harvest Ministries 824 W. 3rd St., will hold a Kid's Christmas Party Saturday, Dec. 15. The event will be for approximately 150 poor and homeless children. King's Harvest needs donated wrapped Christmas gifts for this event for kids ages 0-17 years. The toys need to be gift wrapped and marked as boy or girl on the outside and the age range. Gifts need to be dropped off no later than Wednesday, Dec. 12. Drop-off times will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays and from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturdays. Donors are asked to go to the back door and ring the buzzer. For pet lovers, the organization also needs canned cat food and Tidy Cat clumping cat litter. King's Harvest is a nonprofit 501c(3) organization that serves the poor and homeless in the Quad Cities. Guest pianist performs at Silvis Heights church SILVIS -- G. Richard Deal, concert pianist and recording artist, will present a free sacred piano concert at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Silvis Heights Baptist Church, 801 3rd St. Mr. Deal is from the Chicago area and has presented more than 2,600 sacred and classical piano concerts in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. He has presented numerous solo concerts in the U.S. and has performed with symphony orchestras including an appearance at Chicago's historic Orchestra Hall. Mr. Deal is a graduate of the American Conservatory of Music, the Moody Bible Institute, and the Sherwood Conservatory of Music, all of Chicago. He was a faculty member of the Sacred Music Dept. of the Moody Bible Institute. Mr. Deal has been a participant in several international piano competitions including the prestigious Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, Russia. Mr. Deal arranges his own sacred piano arrangements and has released six professional recordings. The most recent is titled ''Majestic Piano Praise,'' a collection of favorite hymns and praise music.

WELCA welcomes women to Christmas party MOLINE -- First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Moline and Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will host a WELCA Christmas Party at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the church, 1230 5th Ave. A musical program will be presented by soloist Sangeetha Rayaparti, daughter of Jacob and Karen Rayaparti, and pianist Mary Neal. Refreshments provided by Eunice Circle member will be served in Fellowship Hall following the program.
Celebrate joy of Christmas past, present ANDOVER -- The 42nd annual "Joy of Christmas Past and Present" will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Augustana Lutheran Church, 628 6th St. Students and faculty from Augustana College will join the community for this service of worship and music. The Christmas story will be read in several different languages. Dr. Sharron Varallo, Communication Studies professor at Augustana College, will give the homily. The Ascension Singers, Brass Ensemble and organist Larry Peterson, all from the college, will provide music. The service will conclude with a procession to Jenny Lind Chapel, which will be illuminated by 100 candles, and where Holy Communion will be celebrated to the strains of familiar Christmas Carols led by the Ascension Singers.
