AURORA, Ill. (AP) — The Kane County Health Departments is reminding residents about the importance of annual flu shots.

It's National Influenza Vaccination Week, an awareness week observed each year by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated before holiday gatherings. And caregivers of people in high risk groups should pay special attention to protecting themselves against the flu virus.

People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, heart disease and lung disease and people 65 years and older.

The Illinois Department of Public Health has a website where you can find drug stores and health departments offering flu shots.
