Natty loves to take her show on the road

She doesn't bark often, but she is a good door watcher. After people enter, she loves everyone. I first saw her in the window of the pet store 10 years ago. She was a tiny thing, such a little darling Boston terrier. I couldn't resist that little face and big eyes. She was such a comfort when my son went off to college. When I was playing with Natty one day -- she's very full of energy -- I blew up a balloon, and she went wild! She was bouncing it up and down, and I'd bat at it, and she loved it! She takes hold of balloons and shakes them as if she's killing something, though she never bites through them. She goes after them as they go way up in the air. Everyone who comes to visit wants her to perform. Our church in Sun City, Ariz., had a talent night. I took Natty, and people wanted her to come again. I took her to our hospital, and the patients enjoyed her. My niece, Heather, works at Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, and Natty was asked to perform there. My mother called The Dispatch, and they came and took pictures of her. The photographer took several good pictures; it's hard to photograph her because she's so fast with the balloon. I've been training her, and she learns easily. She counts, knows sign language, and shakes hands. She sits, waits for treats, and she understands when I talk to her. I tell her, "I can't take you today," and she looks so sad. When we eat, I ask her, "Where do good dogs go?," and she leaves the room. She often goes to my mother, who is handicapped, and is such a love to her. When we perform, I put a colored lei on Natty, and on me, too. We use music, and her special song really gets her going. At 10, she's getting old, but she's still full of energy. We love her and wish she would live forever. We all love Natty!

1988 -- 25 years ago: William G. Lawrence, first administrative director, has retired fromPECO Enterprises, Inc. Prior to his service at PECO, Mr. Lawrence was the civilianpersonnel officer at the Rock Island Arsenal.
