A celebration of life service for Joseph and Wilma Wakeland, New Boston, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at Bewley Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Aledo. Military honors will be conducted by the Mercer County VFW Post 1571. Burial will be at the New Boston Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Joseph C. Wakeland memorial fund.
Joseph died on Nov. 17, 2012. Wilma died on Jan. 14, 2007.

1989 -- 25 years ago: East Moline developer Jim Massa says the financial package for the proposed $34.5 million Quad City International Motor Speedway is down to making sure "all the i's are dotted and t's are crossed. Finalizing this will give the green light to see if NASCAR and CART, the auto racing sanctioning bodies, approve race dates.
