The Silvis Fire Department is hosting it's annual Blood Drive to help the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center on January 12th between 8am and Noon. There is a greater need for blood around the holidays and we would appreciate your donation. Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins are also welcome. To schedule an appointment please call the Silvis Fire Dept. at 309-792-9553. Must be at least 110lbs. and 17 years of age, or 16 with a parental consent form. 1964 -- 50 years ago: Rehearsals for the 84th season of the Handel Oratorio Society chorus will begin at 7:30 p.m. Monday on the stage of Centennial Hall, Augustana College.
1989 -- 25 years ago: The Rock Island City Council's plan announced this week to have the federal government vacate Valley Homes public housing and move residents to Arsenal Courts to reduce density may not be feasible.
