BHC tustee candidates announced

Black Hawk College has released a list of candidates who will be running for the college's open board of trustee positions in April.

The candidates are Tim Black, Galva, who is seeking a six-year term; Sammie Borst, of Kewanee, who is running for a six-year term; Kylee Fox, of Rock Island, a two-year term; John McCooley, of Rock Island, a two-year term; and Doug Strand, of East Moline, a six-year term.

Four seats will be open: two of them are six-year seats and two are unexpired two-year seats, according to the college.

1964 -- 50 years ago: THE ARGUS will be election headquarters for Rock Island County tomorrow night, and the public is invited to watch the operation. The closing of the polls at 6 p.m. will mark the start of open house in the newsroom. Visitors will see staff members receiving, tabulating and posting returns.
1989 -- 25 years ago: Few bricks actually tumbled, but no one seemed to mind as about 1,000 people gathered to celebrate the formal start of demolition at the site of a downtown civic center.
