2 admit selling heroin that killed Alton man

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) — Two southwestern Illinois residents face up to life in prison now that they've admitted distributing the heroin blamed in a 23-year-old man's death. Thirty-three-year-old Tyrone Adams and 26-year-old Cara Moss of Alton pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court in East St. Louis. Authorities say Adams and Moss sold $100 worth of heroin last Aug. 20 to Leonard Hormann III of Alton. Hormann died that day. Adams and Moss also pleaded guilty to charges that accused them of running a heroin-trafficking house for a few months last year and of distributing the drug within 1,000 feet of a school. They remain jailed without bond, awaiting a sentencing hearing scheduled for April 29.

At 7:30 a.m., a police squad carpulled up in front of Miss Day's home and escorted her to school. A caravan of students' cars joined the procession along the way.

River Day Saturday in Leach Park, Bettendorf. A 5K run, wind surfing, a canoe race, hogcalling and more will round out the day under the Interstate 74 bridge.
