Class 2A Orion Sectional
Tuesday:
Sherrard (26-3) vs. Knoxville (26-7), 6 p.m; Carthage Illini West (20-10) vs. El Paso-Gridley (26-1), 8 p.m.Thursday:Championship game, 7:30 p.m.

Sectional histories:Sherrard is looking for just its second sectional title, its only such crown coming in 1990; Knoxville has yet to win its first sectional championship..... Illini West and EPG are likewise seeking their first sectional titles.

Sherrard starters:G: Carly Adams (5-9 Sr., 13.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.5 apg, 2.0 spg) and Erin Barton (5-9 Sr., 9.0 ppg, 3.5 apg, 2.5 rpg, 2.0 spg). C: Annie Winston (5-11 Sr., 8.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg). F: Riley Strandgard (5-10 Jr., 10.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 spg) and Shelby Calderone (5-11 Jr., 9.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg).

Class 2A Somonauk Sectional
Tonight:Aurora Christian (19-8) vs. Peru St. Bede (18-8), 6 p.m.; Riverdale (25-2) vs. Byron (29-2), 7:30 p.m.Thursday:Championship game, 7:30 p.m.

Directions to Somonauk H.S.:For Riverdale fans, get on Illinois 92 and head east until you hook up with U.S. Highway 34. Keep following that route east until you reach the town of Somonauk. On the edge of town, Highway 34 becomes West Market Street; take a left onto West LaSalle Street and look for the school on your left-hand side.

Sectional histories:Riverdale is looking for its first sectional championship, in comparison to Byron, which has seven sectional titles and three state appearances (including a third-place Class A finish in 1996) to its credit..... Aurora Christian is also looking for its first sectional trophy, with St. Bede winning its one and only such title in 2000.

Riverdale starters:G: Elle May (5-4 Sr., 13.0 ppg, 5.0 spg, 3.0 apg, 3.0 rpg), Lauren Claus (5-3 Jr., 10.5 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.5 spg) and Jess Corson (5-6 Sr., 8.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 spg). F: Hannah Nimrick (5-10 Sr., 17.0 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, 3.5 spg) and Sydney Mericle (5-5 Jr., 11.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg).

1914 — 100 years ago: President Wilson announced that he had received from the imperial chancellor of Germany a noncommittal reply to his inquiry into a report that the emperor was willing to discuss terms of peace.
1939 — 75 years ago: Delegates at the Illinois Conference of the Methodist Church in Springfield voted to raise the minimum pay of ministers so that every pastor would get at least $1,000 annually.
1964 — 50 years ago: An audience of more than 2,600 persons jammed into the Davenport RKO Orpheum theater with a shoe horn feasted on a Miller-Diller evening that was a killer night. Phyllis Diller sent the audience with her offbeat humor. And send them she did! It was Miss Diller's third appearance in the Quad-Cities area.
1989 — 25 years ago: A few years ago, a vacant lot on 7th Avenue and 14th Street in Rock Island was a community nuisance. Weeds grew as high 18 inches. Today, the lot has a new face, thanks to Michael and Sheila Rind and other neighbors who helped them turn it into a park three weeks ago.
