CARBONDALE, Ill. – Elly Hoogerwerf, of Rock Island, was the recipient of the Academic Scholarship for Freshmen at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the fall 2013 semester. She will graduate in June from Alleman High School and is the daughter of Sandy and Leo Hoogerwerf, of Rock Island. Her honors and activities include being a member of the school's Student Council, Student Ambassadors program, Foreign Language Club, and participating in the school's Student Hunger Drive. She is also involved with tennis, the Emeralds Dance Team, and hunting and fishing.
