Tonight: Rock Island meets Edwardsville in the 7:30 p.m. Class 4A Pekin Sectional championship game at Dawdy Hawkins Gym.

Up next: The winner faces the Harvey Thornton Sectional champion in the Normal Super-Sectional at Redbird Arena on Tuesday.

Fan bus: Anyone interested in riding a fan bus to Pekin, call Charles Butler at 309-269-3663 Cost is $20 for students and $25 for adults. Both prices include a ticket to the game. The buses will load at 4:30 p.m. at the high school circle drive and depart promptly at 5 p.m.

Why watch: Both teams enter on 11-game winning streaks. ... Edwardsville, seeking its second consecutive sectional title, finished second in the eight-team Southwestern Conference. Both of the Tigers' losses this year were against Belleville East. ... Garrett Covington signed with Western Illinois and Roundtree averages 9.2 assists per game. ... Rock Island is seeking its 19th sectional title and third in the last five years. Under Thom Sigel, the Rocks are 2-2 in sectional title games. ... These two teams have never met in the postseason and do not have a common opponent. ... In 25 years at the school, Edwardsville coach Mike Waldo has more than 500 wins and four sectional championships. ... Edwardsville's starters score 90 percent of its points. ... No Western Big 6 Conference team has won a Class 4A sectional title since the Illinois High School Association split into four classes in 2008. ... In the five previous years of this sectional, no team has repeated as champion. Only O'Fallon has won it twice.

1914 -- 100 years ago: The Rev. R.B. Williams, former pastor of the First Methodist Church, Rock Island, was named superintendent of the Rock Island District.
1939 -- 75 years ago: Abnormally high temperatures and lack of rainfall in Illinois during the past week have speeded maturing of corn and soybean crops.
1964 -- 50 years ago: Installation of a new television system in St. Anthony's Hospital, which includes a closed circuit channel as well as the three regular Quad-Cities channels, has been completed and now is in operation.
1989 -- 25 years ago: When the new Moline High School was built in 1958, along with it were plans to construct a football field in the bowl near 34th Street on the campus. Wednesday afternoon, more than 30 years later, the Moline Board of Education Athletic Board sent the ball rolling toward the possible construction of that field by asking superintendent Richard Hennigan to take to the board of education a proposal to hire a consultant.
