Margaret Henderson, 88, of Milan, died on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.
Services for Mrs. Henderson will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan, or to a favorite charity.
Margaret was born on Oct. 23, 1924, in Moline, a daughter of Ernest and Mary DePoorter Vergotte. She married Jack H. Henderson on July 22, 1965, in Bartlesville, Okla. He preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1987.
Mrs. Henderson was the national president of Royal Neighbors of America Insurance Company, Rock Island, from 1984 to 1989. She also served as the national secretary of Royal Neighbors from 1974 to 1984. Margaret retired from Royal Neighbors of America in 1984 after 46 years of service. Mrs. Henderson also served on the board of directors of St. Ambrose College, Davenport. She was a graduate and valedictorian of her 1942 class at the former St. Mary's High School, Moline. Margaret was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan.
Survivors include her sister, Irene (Lewis) Viviani, Moline; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; sisters, Blanche Wittevrongel and Clara VanHooreweghe.

1989 — 25 years ago: Care & Share, formed in 1984 to provide food to jobless and needy Quad-Citians, will disband because the major part of a crisis created by plant closings is over. Food for the needy is still necessary. So groups separately will continue to raise money and collect food.
