COAL VALLEY -- Village trustees on Wednesday night approved a bid for $252,950 to repaint and repair metal work on the water tower and ground storage tank of well No. 3.|
Village administrator Alan Wilson recommended the bid from K & W Coatings of Elkader, Iowa, because the firm agreed to abide by the Illinois Preference Act which states at least 90 percent of laborers must be Illinois citizens.
The first round of bids for the project was rejected when all three came in at $100,000 over the engineering estimate, said Mr. Wilson. Seven bids were reviewed in the next round, including the one by K & W Coatings.
Trustee Richard Stone said the project's cost is still under its $270,000 budget.
On Wednesday, trustees also approved:
-- A new police contract which includes a 2 percent pay raise each year of the five-year contract for members of the Police Labor Council No. 753. Non-union members of the police department will receive a 2 percent raise for 2013-14.
-- A new lease with Coal Valley Township for space in the village hall for $750 per month. The township will pay its own telephone bill, said Mr. Wilson.
