La Leche League meeting
The next meeting of the La Leche League of Henry and Stark Counties will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at Kewanee Hospital. The program will be "Advantages of Breastfeeding."
All mothers and their babies are welcome. For information call Malissa 309-927-3027.
Funding applications
Henry County 708 Mental Health Board is accepting funding applications for the 2015 fiscal year from qualified agencies.
Organizations seeking funding must provide services to citizens of Henry County in mental health, substance abuse and/or developmental disabilities. Under provisions of the Community Mental Health
Act, the 708 Board annually apportions tax monies from a budget which must ultimately be approved by the Henry County Board.
Deadline for current round of applications is March 31. Application forms are available from Gail Ripka at the Henry County Health Department, 4424 US Highway 34, Kewanee, IL 61443. Requests for application forms may be made by mail, telephone at 309-852-7238, or e-mail at
gripka@henrystarkhealth.org.
National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
March has been designated National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
The Health Department has "Do At Home" Colorectal Cancer Testing Kit available through their offices. The cost of the testing kits is a donation of the recipient's choosing.

1989 — 25 years ago: The two thunderstorms passing through the Quad Cities last night and early today left some area residents reaching for their flashlights.
