Press release submitted by Misty Wilson

The Jackie Carey English Demolition Derby/Car Show Fundraiser will be held Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 at the Henry County Fairgrounds in Cambridge, IL. "This is the third year for the event and we are excited to announce that this year we have a new "Pay It Forward" format and the proceeds will benefit the Refurbish Hand Park Fund" noted Misty Wilson.

"Hand Park, located in Cambridge, is in much need for new playground equipment and other upgrades and our organization was approached to see if we could help raise funds for the event. The park has seen many generations of youth and families from all over Henry County whether it was playing baseball on the ball diamond, family reunions under the pavilion or just playing on the playground equipment. Proceeds will help to install new playground equipment and help with other upgrades for the park for generations yet to come" noted Wilson.

This Jackie English Demolition Derby/Car Show Fundraiser event was created in 2011 to help Jackie Carey English with ongoing medical expenses as a result of her disease Alpha 1. With Jackie's approval and help, it now is a Pay-It-Forward entity that raises funds to help others or organizations that are in need of assistance.

The day-long event will include activities including fun games and face painting by Cat White, for children during the Car show from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a Demolition Derby and 2 new attractions will be held this year including a Battery Operated Youth Power Wheel Demolition Derby that will be held at 2 p.m. before the start of the actual Demolition Derby, and a Vendor/Craft Show that will run from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Cambridge American Legion Post #417 will present Colors during the National Anthem that will be sung by Henry County Fair Talent Contest winner Dani Brooks, of Cambridge. The newly crowned Henry County Fair Queens will be on hand to hand out trophies for the event. There will be 3 food vendors on site as well as alcohol served, for those over 21, sponsored and maintained by the Cambridge American Legion post #417.

The day will also include the sale of Event t-shirts, a 50/50 drawing, a memorial event for those demo drivers/helpers that are no longer with us, and other fun and prizes throughout the day. Kassi Lookingbill, of Cambridge, will be on hand to take "fun photos" for children and families during the car show.

Three major trophies will be awarded for the car show this year with the "People's Choice Award" winner announced during the demolition derby. Trophies will be awarded to the youth participating in the Youth Battery Operated Power Wheel Derby as well to the winners of each category of the Adult Demolition Derby as well.

"This organization starts with absolutely no start up cash each year. We ask for donations and sponsors to make this day happen, and Viola Boyz Promotions voluntarily runs the demolition derby with the assistance of the Cambridge Fire Department and Cambridge Ambulance crew. When the dust settles at the end of the day 100% of all proceeds from the day go to the organization that we are helping. We start again from scratch the next year doing it all over again because we love helping others" noted Wilson.

Grandstand admission to watch the demolition derby is $5.00 per person, or $20.00 for an entire family.

Donations are appreciated for children's games prizes, or items for goodie bags for the car show, and also if any individual or business would like to be a sponsor of the demolition derby. For further information on donating or sponsoring, call 309-525-3796.
