07/25/2014, 6:48 pm Lois A. Van Severen, 82, a resident of Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, formerly of Milan, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at the center.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. Burial is at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or the Milan Santa Fund.
Lois Cheney was born Sept. 2, 1931, in Joliet, Ill., a daughter of Fred and Anna Wenzel Cheney. She married Peter Schmitz on May 1, 1954, in Rock Island. He died Nov. 10, 1960. Lois married Henry Van Severen on July 6, 1962, in Rock Island. He died Nov. 19, 1996.
Lois had owned and operated with her late husband, Henry, Van's Catering of Milan. She was a charter member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. Lois was a member of the Milan Woman's Club and was responsible for the Milan Santa Fund for many years, spending countless hours writing replies to the many letters she received for Santa Claus. She and Henry appeared as Santa and Mrs. Claus for many area organizations. Lois was also a member of the Milan American Legion Auxiliary, served on the Milan Indian Summer Festival committee for many years and was a grand marshal of the Indian Summer Festival Parade.
Survivors include her children, Rick (Sandy) Van Severen, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Joan (Rev. Mark) Etter, Edgewood, Ky.; Dave (Joyce) Van Severen, Geneseo, Peter (Linda) Schmitz, Cedarburg, Wis., and Robert (Kim) Van Severen, Rock Island; grandchildren, Mike (Amy) Van Severen, Angela (Dustin) Fischer, Melissa (Ken) Luckjohn, Roger Etter, Amanda (Ken) Cihlar, Karen (David) Osenga, Victoria (Chad) Gerber, Julia (Michael) Hurst, Rebecca Van Severen, Allison Van Severen, Tracy (Tye) Schriever and Julie (Rob) Schrader; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Florence Goggin, Arlington Heights, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; daughters, Jill Schmitz and Janet Van Severen; and sisters, Beulah Reid, Helen DiMarco and Eleanor Cheney.

Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 3 to 7 p.m. Monday. Burial is at Davenport Memorial Park.
He was born March 5, 1948, in Davenport, to Ivan and Evelyn Wilson. He married Karen Hintze on Jan. 22, 1972.
He retired after 43 years of service to S/M Service Co. and River Valley Cooperative.
Surviving are his wife; sons, Jeffrey (Rebecca) and Andrew (Elizabeth); mother; sister, Pat (Jim) Carr; brother, Mike.

07/25/2014, 5:38 pm Christian "Chris" Nacos, 44, of Davenport, passed away July 18, 2014, in Davenport. Following cremation, a private family gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Runge, Davenport.
Chris was born Sept. 24, 1969, in Davenport, son of Theodore and Diane Wetter Nacos.
Survivors include daughter, Christine (Robert) Myrick; granddaughter, Ariel Martin; sisters, Cheryl (Marshall) Callaway and Danielle (Justin) Krager; brother, Grant (Tammy Jennings) Nacos; and several nieces and nephews.

07/25/2014, 5:38 pm Junior E. Parson Sr., 67, of Rock Island, died Friday, July 18, 2014, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport.
Cremation rites were accorded. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made in care of the family. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, is assisting the family.
Junior was born in Cairo, Ill., on Sept. 16, 1946, a son of Emperor W. and Lura Joplin Parson. He married Kay E. Smith on July 4, 1974, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on March 7, 2004.
Junior last worked for Sparks Fiberglass in Rock Island before retiring in 2002. He was an all-around handyman and enjoyed watching Tim Duncan play with the San Antonio Spurs. He dearly loved all of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his children (and spouses), Lea Arrington, Junior (Jennifer) Parson Jr. and Darin Harmon, all of Rock Island, and Joe (Tanya) White and Schewonda (Byron) Jackson, both of Decatur, Ill.; stepchildren, Laura (Jerry) McNabb and Rodney (Lisa) VanDyke, both of Leavenworth, Kan., and Jerry Kimble, Decatur, and MaLinda Dyer, Atlanta, Ga.; a host of grand- and great-grandchildren; sisters, Janie (Nat) Gunter, Rock Island, Claria (James) Love, Sandusky, Ill., and Mary Johnson, Olmsted, Ill.; and brother, Kevin Parson, Rock Island.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and five brothers and sisters.

Funeral services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Dr. Bishop was born April 5, 1927, in Andalusia, the son of Clarence and Hazel Elliott Bishop. He married Joyce V. Averbeck on July 7, 1956, in Fond du Lac, Wis.
He graduated from Augustana College and taught school in Illinois City and later was assistant superintendent of the Silvis schools. Dr. Bishop later returned to school and graduated from the Loyola University School of Dentistry and was in practice in Rock Island and Moline until his retirement in 2009.
He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and was stationed aboard the USS Wrangell. Dr. Bishop was a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder and trustee. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, Rock Island District Dental Society, The Outing Club, Davenport, and Rock Island Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Andrew Sutliff, Showlow, Ariz.; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. James and Dr. Catherine Bishop, Rock Island; granddaughters, Kelly and Christina Bishop, both of Rock Island; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dee and Dr. Loren Horton, LaGrange Park, Ill., and Peggy and Charles Pierce, Moline; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dorothy Rursch.

07/25/2014, 5:38 pm Garnet M. Hettrick, of Moline, formerly of Hubbard, Ohio, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014.
Services will be July 28 at Kelley-Robb Funeral Home in Hubbard, Ohio. Burial is at Vienna Township Cemetery in Vienna, Ohio. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, East Moline.
Garnet was born April 30, 1917, to Clifford and Florence Beckman. She graduated from Hubbard High School in 1935.
Garnet married Donald Ritchie in 1936; he passed away in 1967. She later married Henry Hettrick in 1967; he passed away in 2000. Fred C. Collins, of Moline, has been a special friend for more than a decade.
Garnet was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, brother, son, stepdaughter, four stepsons and three grandchildren.
She leaves a daughter, Dolores Mikita, of Moline. She also leaves behind two stepdaughters, two grandsons and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, July 28, at Rafferty Funeral Home, 2111 1st St. A, Moline, with visitation one hour before services. Entombment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, East Moline. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to UnityPoint Hospice or Sacred Heart Church.
Ron was born Oct. 7, 1944, in Moline, the son of Willie and Margaret Coppens Dolleslager.
He retired March 1, 1997, after 32 years, from John Deere Seeding, Moline.
Survivors include his siblings, Beverly (Larry) Moline, Fort Collins, Colo., and Roger (Kim) Dolleslager, Moline; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John.
