    George Robert Fanning, 60, of Burlington, Iowa, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City.

    Services are 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christ Episcopal, Burlington. Visitation is 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday at Prugh, Burlington.

    He was born June 14, 1945, to Robert and Goldie Fanning. He married Susan Brown Feb. 22, 1997.

    Survivors are wife; three daughters, Melissa Friday, Denver, Colo., Jessica, Chicago, Letha Brown, Burlington; son, Shannon Brown, Sherwood, Ark.; sister, Rosemary Kennedy, Rock Island; three grandchildren.

    Mae Anderson

    Mae Wynn Anderson, 79, formerly of Moline, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

    Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, 6601 38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Estate, Moline. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, or the Humane Society of your choice.

    Mae was born March 24, 1926, in Lincoln, Neb., daughter of Carl and Ingrid Skoog Johnson. She married William Wynn on March 25, 1949. He preceded her in death in November 1979. She married Urban "Andy" S. Anderson on Dec. 21, 1991, in Moline.

    Mae was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. She taught music at J & B Music and also at Chandler's Hammond Organ Studio. Mae also taught piano and organ in her home for more than 50 years. She had a great love and compassion for animals. Mae's family was the greatest joy of her life.

    Survivors (and spouses) are husband, Urban "Andy" S. Anderson, Moline; son, Gregory Wynn, Moline; daughter, Susan (Gerald) Ketelaar, East Moline; grandchildren, Jennifer Wynn, Moline, Amy (Eric) Nesbitt, Rock Island, Christopher Schneekloth, New Boston; great-grandchildren, Lillian Glackin, Moline, Jackson Wynn, Moline, Hunter and Morgan Nesbitt, Rock Island; sister, Effie (Brit) Monaghan, Appleton, Wis.; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Evys Warren Starr.

    Bernice Kitson

    Funeral services for Bernice Kitson, 92, formerly of Moline, are 10 a.m. Tuesday at Gospel Assembly Church, Moline. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline.

    Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Van Hoe Funeral Home, East Moline. Memorials may be made to her church, where she had been a very active member.

    Mrs. Kitson died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Illini Restorative Care Center, Silvis.

    Bernice Curry was born March 30, 1913, in Hardin County, Ky., daughter of Drew and Bertha Boston Curry. She married Dewey Ennis, with whom she had her two children. He preceded her in death. She then married George Hartman, who also preceded her in death. She married William "Everett" Kitson, who died earlier this year.

    Bernice worked in the commissary at the former International Harvester Farmall in Rock Island. Mrs. Kitson accepted the Lord very early in her life and was a faithful member of Gospel Assemby Church in Moline for many years. She served as an usherette, nursery director, taught Sunday school and Bible school and sang in the church choir until she was well into her 70s.

    She was lovingly known as Nana not only by her grandchildren but by other children as well. She often had children in her home and enjoyed playing a good game of checkers.

    Mrs. Kitson's greatest joy was to cook a big meal and invite all of her family to sit around her dining room table together to visit, be with one another and pray together. No one ever turned down an invite to one of Nana's Southern home-cooked meals.

    Her love of family, her kind words of encouragement, and her faithful, fervent prayers will be greatly missed.

    Survivors include daughter, Roberta Breckling, Silvis; son, Ronald Ennis, Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister, Beulah Kipping, Moline; and brothers, James Curry, Horse Cave, Ky., and Clinton Curry, Davenport. Grandchildren, Desiree Ennis and Kari Copeland; sisters, Nora Johnson and Frances Green; and brothers, Grady Curry and Wayne Curry preceded her in death.

    Mary Wales

    Mary K. Wales, 49, of Silvis, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at her residence.

    Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an education fund for her daughter, Amanda.

    Mary was born Sept. 25, 1955, in Moline, daughter of Robert and Lucille Consamux Strabley. She earned her associate's degree in early childhood development from Black Hawk College. She married Clifford Wales Sept. 21, 1974, in Rock Island.

    She enjoyed yard sales, following the Hawkeyes and most of all being with her daughter.

    Survivors (and spouses) include her husband, Clifford; a daughter, Amanda; a sister, Bonnie (Robert) Strabley Kauth; brothers, Kenneth (Patricia) Strabley, Robert (Donna) Strabley, and Michael (Leslie) Strabley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    Del Bower

    Del H. Bower, 52, of Prophetstown, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at home.

    Services and burial will be private. Friends may share their remembrances with the family from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson & Son Funeral Home, Prophetstown. A memorial fund has been established.

    He was born Dec. 31, 1952, in Morrison, to Clayton and Dorothy Burdsall Bower.

    He was a painting contractor.

    His enjoyment in life was spending time with friends and making friends with those he met.

    Del is survived by a daughter, Anna Maria Bower, California; a sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Bob Scott, Louisville, Ky.; a niece and a nephew; and aunt and uncle, Frank and Jean Moews, Prophetstown. Preceding him were his parents and a brother, James.

    She was born Dec. 13, 1943, in Germany, to Adam and Anna Diess. She married Carl Goodrick March 26, 1965.

    She is survived by her husband; sister, Elfiede Wutscherr, Grosse Auheim, FRG; brother, Heinz Diess, Rodenbach, FRG; sister-in-law, Debbie (spouse, Mike) Bagby, Andalusia; two nephews and one niece.

    Harriet Schaver

    Harriet Alys Schaver, 82, of Fulton, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Mercy North, Clinton, Iowa.

    Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Newton Zion Reformed, Erie. Visitation is 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bosma-Renkes, Fulton. Burial is in Fulton Township Cemetery.

    She was born Feb. 28, 1923. She married Claus Schaver Dec. 31, 1941. He died May 3, 1996.

    Survivors are children, Willa Brown, Michigan, Ruby Feeley, Glendale Heights, Ill., Calvin, Wisconsin; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Florence Bielema, Ella Smith, both Fulton, Evelyn Houzenga, Morrison.

    William Scott

    William E. Scott, 66, of Cherokee Village, Ark., formerly of Alpha, died Thursday, July 28, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital, Duluth, Minn.

    Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Peterson-Wallin-Knox, Alpha. Private burial is at a later date. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    He was born Oct. 6, 1938, to Walter and Celina Scott. He married Mardena Trout March 27, 1960.

    Survivors are daughters, Diana Wheeler, Alpha, Debbie Leach, Sycamore, Ill., Doddie Johnson, Woodhull; son, David, Woodhull; nine grandchildren; brother, Robert, Silvis.

    Cory Stubbs

    Cory L. Stubbs, 26, of Erie, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, as a result of a one-vehicle accident near Hillsdale.

    Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Erie Christian Church. Burial will be in Erie Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. A memorial fund has been established.

    Cory Lee Stubbs was born Dec. 16, 1978, in Morrison, the son of Ronald and Peggy Melton Stubbs. He graduated from Morrison Institute of Technology and Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, where he had received an Illinois State Scholarship.

    He was employed by Missman Stanley and Associates, Rock Island. He served in the Illinois National Guard, 123rd Field Artillery, Milan, for six years.

    He was a member of the Erie Volunteer Fire Department and Lake Erie Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

    Survivors include his father and stepmother, Ronald and Jeannie Stubbs, Venice, Fla.; a sister, Candace Betts, Morrison; a half-brother, Rickey Stubbs, Venice; a stepsister, Tracey Taylor, Venice; grandparents, K.B. and Carol Melton, Erie, and Ruth Stubbs, Erie; and a nephew, Lucas Carey. He was preceded in death by his mother, Peggy Melton Williams on April 18, 2004, and his grandfather, Arland Stubbs in 1995.

    Hilda Swanson

    Hilda C. Swanson, 97, of Port Byron, died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.

    Services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Port Byron. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday with an Eastern Star service at 6 p.m. Memorials may be made to Port Byron Congregational Church.

    The former Hilda C. Hartz was born July 23, 1908, in Davenport, daughter of Charles and Ella Guelck Hartz. She married Vernis Swanson on July 2, 1938, in Moline. He died on Dec. 16, 1973.

    She was a member of Port Byron Congregational Church and the Mary Martha Circle of the church. She was a past worthy matron of the former Elsie Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Port Byron, and was currently a member of the Rose Chapter, Silvis.

    Hilda enjoyed watching the Cubs, bowling and playing golf. She especially enjoyed the love of her family.

    Survivors include a daughter, Jeannette Swanson, Chicago; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Thomas Taulbee, Fulton, Kenneth Strand, Rapids City; a grandson, Eric Strand, and his wife, Barbara, Frisco, Texas; and granddaughter, Jenny Schillinger, and her husband, Shane, Rapids City; four great-grandchildren, Laura, Evan, Katie and Allison; a sister, Elfrieda Katsis, East Moline; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sisters, Norma Broquist, Camilla Hollister and Elverna Reynolds; a brother, Charles Hartz, and a brother in infancy.

    Mary Ann Harrison, 84, of Davenport and Tucson, Ariz., died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf.

    Services are 11:30 a.m. Friday at Runge, Davenport. Visitation is 10:30 a.m. to services. Burial is Saturday in Mound Prairie Cemetery, Twin Lakes, Wis.

    She was born July 27, 1921, to Paul and Ada Radke. She married Orville Harrison Aug. 8, 1942. He died in 1964.

    Survivors are children, Jeff, Fairbanks, Alaska, Ann Bourg, Mendota Heights, Minn., Jane Heydeman, Silvis; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; companion, Hugh McLaury, Tucson.

    Richard Kuehn

    Richard E. "Dick" Kuehn, 69, of Clarence, Iowa, formerly of Davenport, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Genesis West, Davenport.

    A celebration of his life is 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Durant Community Center. Private graveside services are in Davenport Memorial Park.

    He was born in 1936. He married Ruth Wiley in 1961 and later married Lynette Petersen in 1992.

    Survivors are wife; son, Rick, Durant; stepchildren, Linda Rhodes, Muscatine, Cheryl Kuhlman, Tiffany Crane, Robert Crane, all Davenport, Terri Person, Morrison; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters.

    Mary Liddy

    Graveside services for Mary L. Liddy, 99, of Davenport, are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport. There is no visitation. Halligan-McCabe-DeVries, Davenport, handled arrangements.

    Mary died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Bettendorf Healthcare Center.

    She was born July 31, 1905, to John and Anna Sturgeon Lee. She married Arthur Liddy in 1930 in Davenport. He died Oct. 26, 1964.

    Mary was employed at My Shop, Moline, for 11 years. She retired from Jane Lee Store, Rockford, Ill., as store manager and buyer, after 30 years.

    She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport, Ladies Elks and Downtown Davenport Merchants.

    Survivors include nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband and brothers, Charles, John, and Garland.

    William McBride

    William McBride, 67, of Bettendorf, died of natural causes Thursday, July 28, 2005, at his home.

    Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. The family will greet visitors 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Memorials may be made to Wildlife Prairie Park, Peoria, Ill., or to the Quad City Music Guild.

    Mr. McBride was born May 6, 1938, in San Diego, Calif., to Edward J. and Della V. Cowgill McBride. He married Susan Carmichael in 1976 in San Diego. The couple later divorced.

    He was a land surveyor for the county of San Diego, retiring in 1987 after 30 years of service. Upon his retirement, he and Susan moved to the Quad-Cities. He then worked for the former Schemmer Associates. He also volunteered at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center; enjoyed being an amateur radio operator, call sign K6HAM; and supported various wildlife organizations.

    Survivors include sisters, Mary Klein and Betty Bovee, and brother, Ed McBride, all of San Diego; numerous nieces and nephews; his former wife and friend, Susan McPeters, Davenport; and his beloved Siberian husky, Hefty, who is being cared for by Susan. He was preceded in death by both parents.

    Private graveside services for James E. Rekese, 85, of Davenport, are Monday at National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. There is no public visitation. Cunnick-Collins, Davenport, is handling arrangements.

    He was born July 5, 1920, to Clemens and Lena Rekese. He married Doris Will Feb. 8, 1946.
