Press release submitted by Quad City Raceway

On a beautiful July evening, 75 cars in four divisions rolled into the pits. The features got underway with the UMP Street Stocks. Greg Gill took full advantage of his outside front row starting spot and jumped out to an early lead. Gill was challenged early on by Buck Harmening and Rob Henry but was able to hold both of them off. Gill held off a late charge by Korey Peterson to take home the checkered flag. Peterson came from seventh to finish second followed Chris Lawrence, who came from dead last, Rob Nylin, and Justin Rutledge. The heat race wins went to Matt Werner and Henry.

The UMP 4 Cylinders put on an excellent show Sunday night. At one point six car were bunched up, all racing for the lead, running three and four wide. For several laps Mark Sutton, Wade Dahl, Shawn Pappas, Joseph Wagner, Todd Sibley, and Josh Riley were all over each other battling for first. Eventually Sibley, Dahl, and Riley separated themselves from the pack. In the last few laps Sibley and Riley pulled away fighting for the lead. Riley would get the advantage and make it three for three at QCR. Sibley would take second followed by Dahl, Wagner, and Sutton. Heat race wins went to Pappas and R.J. Gonzales.

The IMCA Late Models, like every Sunday, put on another great show. Corey Goldbeck grabbed the early lead with Todd Malmstrom and Adam Oppendike on his bumper. Towards the back Mike Murphy Jr. and Ray Guss Jr. were starting to make their way to the front. Back up front Goldbeck was running the bottom and Oppendike was running up high as they fought for the lead. Oppendike got a good run on the top side and took over the lead and began pulling away from the pack. Murphy and Guss were still moving up fast as well as Shawn Mulvany. Oppendike was too strong though as he continued to build his lead and go onto he first career IMCA Late Model feature win. Mulvany would take second followed by Guss, Goldbeck, and Murphy. Heat race wins went to Mulvany and LeRoy Brenner.

The UMP Modifieds closed the racing program with a terrific feature race. Doug Crampton took control of the lead early on with Brandon Durbin right on him. Peoria’s Derrick Doerr found a different way around the track that one else was taking, the top side all the way around the track, and he began moving up. Back up front Bob Stogdell was running side by side with B. Durbin for second while Crampton began pulling away. The car that was flying was the 98 of Mitch Morris. Morris started 16th and before long he was challenging Stogdell and B. Durbin for second. Morris would get by Stogdell but not B. Durbin. Up front Crampton was too strong as he would lead the rest of the way and take home the win followed B. Durbin, Morris, Stogdell, and Doerr. The heat race wins went to Mike Zemo Jr., Crampton, and B. Durbin. The semi-feature went to Mike Garland.

Stuart Motorsports, Inc. would like to thank all the fans, drivers, and sponsors for making Sunday night a great success. Racing will continue this Saturday at the LaSalle Speedway and this Sunday at the Quad City Raceway. It will be normal weekly racing at both tracks.
