Comment on this story

The Rock Island County Historical Society is hosting a Rock Island County History Day from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday at the Rock Island Southwest Branch Library, 9010 Ridgewood Road.

Society representatives are seeking items related to the history of people, businesses, organizations and everyday life of Rock Island County citizens. The society will accept original items. For those who want to keep their originals, society members will scan items so they can be added to the historical archive.

The RICHS collects maps, books, letters, personal papers, photographs, films, journals and manuscripts, historical objects, paintings, diaries, historic records, vintage brochures, pamphlets and postcards, newspapers and other publications, yearbooks and memorabilia.

At 2:30 and 3:30 p.m., the society will present a workshop on how to preserve heirlooms and personal collections to current archival standards. A recording station will be available for people wanting to record oral histories of the county and for veterans wanting to record their service history. No registration is required for the drop-in event.
