A Davenport man arrested after a foot chase with police that resulted in a Moline officer being injured pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges of retail theft and resisting a peace officer.

Rock Island County Circuit Court Judge Walter Braud set a June 4 trial date for Quivadas Gaines, 21. He remained in custody Tuesday morning on $25,000 bond, according to court records. Mr. Gaines is accused of taking an iPhone from the AT&T store in SouthPark Mall on April 11.

Moline police said they were called about a shoplifter in the store at 6:08 p.m. April 11. The man, later identified as Mr. Gaines, fled on foot toward a mobile home park in the 4100 block of 27th Street, Lt. Mike Hutton said last week.

During the chase, according to Lt. Hutton, an officer stepped in a hole and twisted his ankle.
