Press release submitted by Colona District Public Library

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in Illinois will be the topic for a free speaking program at the Colona Public Library at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 21st. Author Tom Emery, who writes the column Illinois in the Civil War in area newpapers, will discuss the work done and the impact of the CCC, which was a hallmark of FDR's New Deal. Considered one of the most successful government programs in American history, the CCC put millions of young men to work in parks, forestry, and soil conservation, planting trees, building dams, improving drainage structures, and constructing park infrastructure that are still used today. The public is invited to attend. The Library is at 911 1st Street (IL HWY 84) in Colona. For more information, contact the Library at 309-792-0548.
