1862 -- 150 years ago: The Ladies' Soldiers' Aid Society will meet on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mrs. Capt. Gregg. All who are interested in relieving the wants or contributing to the comfort of our soldiers should attend.
1887 -- 125 years ago: The Rock Island glass works plant resumed operations today following settlement of a strike.
1912 -- 100 years ago: Half holidays, which have been enjoyed on Saturdays by United States engineers in the Rock Island district, have been discontinued.
1937 -- 75 years ago: Members of the Lincoln School Parent-Teacher Association of East Moline have arranged meetings for the school year. The theme will be "Environment Molds Your Child," according to Mrs. Walter Schilling, program chairwoman.
1962 -- 50 years ago: The Rock Island High School Girls Athletic Association was host to 250 girls from area schools in the annual GAA play day of the Rock Island District. Girls attending were from Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Cambridge, Erie, Geneseo, Orion, Riverdale, AlWood, Davenport and Bettendorf high schools.
