1887 -- 125 years ago: P. A. Cool, of Rock Island, has been named a representative of the Central Illinois Conference to attend the Methodist Church general conference.
1912 -- 100 years ago: Miss Augusta Dart has resigned as teacher at Hawthorne School to accept a position in the Minneapolis school system.
1937 -- 75 years ago: Fast army tanks built at the Rock Island Arsenal are taking part in maneuvers at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
1962 -- 50 years ago: The city of Rock Island has removed 104 dead trees under its current negotiated contract and now will prepare another lot of about 100 trees for removal by bid proposals.
