Know Your Rights, Know Yourself -- Three LGBT advocacy organizations, whose combined influence and outreach covers the state of Illinois and beyond, are teaming up to empower the Quad-Citiescommunity.
The trio of A.L.P.H.A.S (African-American Lesbian Professionals Having A Say), Lambda Legal and Affinity Community Services, of Chicago, jointly invite the general public to "Know Your Rights, Know Yourself," a LGBT educational forum to be held from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, 630 9th St., Rock Island.
"This event is a unified effort between three of the state's LGBT advocacy organizations. It is a unique opportunity for Rock Island and the Quad-Cities, as it is rare that our local community has the opportunity to play host to such diverse, active and highly notarized organizations at the same venue," said Tee LeShoure, president of A.L.P.H.A.S."Each host organization brings with it an unique message of equality, knowledge and equal rights for all."
The eventwill feature entertainment, educational sessions andinteractive workshops on LGBT rights andhealth and wellness. The event is free and open to the public. Free refreshments will be served. The media is invited to attend.For more information, please email: email@example.com.
A.L.P.H.A.S (http://facebook.com/AlphasEliteCrew)is a not-for-profit organization established in April 2012 by a small group of Quad-Cities residents. The organization's mission is to become active participants within the LGBT community by educating and strengthening individuals and families to seek resources relating to health, family, finance and awareness.
Affinity Community Services (www.affinity95.org), of Chicago,is a social justice organization that works with and on behalf of Black LGBTQ communities, queer youth, and allies to identify emergent needs, create safe spaces, develop leaders, and bridge communities through collective analysis and action for social justice, freedom, and human rights.
