Genesis, Trinity didn't use tainted steroid

Comment on this story

Genesis and Trinity medical centers said they did not use any of the meningitis-tainted steroid linked to the death of five people in the U.S. from meningitis.

Both medical centers said they have had many calls from patients, but neither buys products from the New England Compounding Center, where the tainted steroid reportedly originated.

"We do not purchase any products from a compounding pharmacy that takes non sterile products and compounds to sterile products," Genesis pharmacy director Kevin Cahill said in a news release. "Genesis Medical Center Pharmacies only purchase from compounding pharmacies that use sterile products."

"Rest assured, Trinity does not purchase any products from New England Compounding Center," Trinity director of pharmacy Miriam Loewen, said. "To ensure patient safety, Trinity only does business with vendors that follow the highest USP Sterile Compounding Practices and Standards."
