5K to support music education in Illinois Quad-Cities to be held October 20
3rd Annual Louie Bellson 5K Memorial Benefiting Illinois Quad-Cities Music Education to be held October 20
Moline, IL – On October 20, 2012, the 3rd Annual Louie Bellson 5K Memorial Drum Roll will be held to raise support for music education in the Illinois Quad-Cities. The run/walk race will begin at 9:00 a.m. from the Moline High School west parking lot. The race honors Moline-native jazz legend. Proceeds go to support music programs in Moline Public Schools.
WHAT: 3rd Annual Louie Bellson 5K Memorial Drum Roll
WHEN: October 20, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. CDT
WHERE: Moline High School (west parking lot)
TO REGISTER: Interested runners and walkers should submit a race application or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Registration fee before October 15 is $20; paid on the day of the race is $25.
WHY: Students involved in music education are more likely to succeed in other subject areas, stay in school, and learn important vocational skills such as working in teams, communication, and creative thinking. In spite of these benefits, nearly 50 percent of secondary schools and 20 percent of elementary schools rely on non-district sources for music program fundings. The Louie Bellson 5K Drum Roll Run was established in 2010 to help meet this need in the Illinois Quad-Cities area.
