1st Sgt. Veterans Day ceremonies scheduled throughout the Quad-Cities this weekend and next week include:
Saturday, Nov. 10
-- The Hero Street Monument Committee Veterans Day ceremony will start at 10 a.m. at Hero Street Memorial Park, 1st Avenue and 2nd Street, Silvis. The keynote speaker will be Miguel Rodriguez from the U.S. Training Center, Great Lakes, Ill. Also speaking will be Silvis Mayor William Fox; state Sen. Mike Jacobs, D-East Moline; Ray Hamilton; and Col. Victor Harmon from the Rock Island Arsenal.
Sunday, Nov. 11
-- American Legion Post No. 154, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 9128 and Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at 2 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 1645 23rd St., Bettendorf. It will include an honor guard and gun salute. The Patriot Guard Riders will provide flag detail. Special guests will include Bettendorf Mayor Bob Gallagher and Command Sgt. Maj. James Spencer from the Rock Island Arsenal.
-- The annual Veterans Veterans Day parade will start at 10 a.m. at 4th Street and Western Street, Davenport. It will go to 3rd Street, to Main Street, to 2nd Street, west to Scott Street, and end at the Scott County Courthouse, 400 W. 4th St. Lt. Gen. J. Michael Bednarek, commanding general, First Army, will speak.
-- The Don Cherry Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5083, 223 S. State St., Geneseo, will host a Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. with Virgil Johnson as master of ceremonies. The Rev. Lynn Bergren of First Lutheran Church will give the invocation and benediction. First Sgt. Fletcher Whittenberg of the First Army Headquarters at the Rock Island Arsenal will be the guest speaker. The service will include a color guard, gun salute and taps. A light lunch will be served afterward.
-- The United Methodist Church, 124 Butzer St., Hillsdale, will host a Veterans Day tribute dinner and concert with Cathy Reynolds. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m.; the concert will start at 7 p.m. Call (309) 658-2340 for details.
-- A Veterans Day observance will start at 11 a.m. at American Legion Post 569, 515 W. 1st Ave., Milan. Chaplain Maj. Terry Jarvis, Joint Munitions Command, Rock Island Arsenal, will speak. Post officials will lay a wreath, and the honor guard will fire a 21-gun salute. A U.S. flag-retirement ceremony also is planned. -- A Veterans Day ceremony will start at 1 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial, Central Park, 4th Street and 12th Avenue, Orion. Lt. Col. Dan Swanson, Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, will be keynote speaker.
-- Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1303, Ladies' Auxiliary 1303, and American Legion Post 200 will host a Veterans Day service at 9 a.m. at Chippiannock Cemetery, 2901 12th St., Rock Island. P.J. -- A Veterans Day ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at the main flagpole circle, National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Brig. Gen. John F. Wharton, commander of Army Sustainment Command, will be the keynote speaker. People 17 and older must have photo ID to enter the island.
-- A Veterans Day service will begin at 11 a.m. at Hero Street Memorial Park, 145 2nd St., Silvis. Brig. Gen. Duane Gamble, deputy commanding general, Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal, will speak. Call (309) 792-9181 for details.
-- Tampico American Legion Post No. 574 will have a Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. in Reagan Memorial Park, Glassburn Street and Main Street, Tampico. Coffee will be served afterward in the Tampico Historical Society Museum.
Monday, Nov. 12
-- American Legion Post 227 will host a Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. at 9th Street Commons Park, 9th Street and 15th Avenue, East Moline. The guest speaker will be Col. Robin C. Moralez, Army Sustainment Command, Rock Island Arsenal.
Thursday, Nov. 15
-- The Augustana Veterans Support Group will honor veterans of World War II at 7 p.m. in Larson Hall, Bergendoff Hall of Fine Arts, Augustana College, 3701 7th Ave., Rock Island. All veterans will be honored. The keynote speaker will be Lt. Herb Wood, a World War II veteran who flew Hellcat fighters off the U.S.S. Yorktown. A reception will follow.
