Brandon's 4th annual Testicular Cancer Awareness Run/Walk and spaghetti supper will be held Nov. 17 and 18 in memory of Brandon Ballard, who lost his battle with testicular cancer in 2008.
Mr. Ballard, who was 19 when he died, wanted to educate teen boys about testicular health. After his death, "Brandon's Law" was passed in Illinois, mandating that sports physicals include a testicular exam and health classes include a section on cancer education.
Proceeds from the events will go towards educating young teens across Illinois about cancer, focusing on testicular cancer, with $500 set aside for the Brandon Ballard scholarship, which go to a senior basketball player at Rockridge High School.
Ducky's Lagoon in Andalusia will sponsor the spaghetti supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 17. It includes spaghetti, salad, garlic bread and a soft drink for $8 from 5 to 7 p.m.
On Nov. 18, Rockridge High School will host the two-mile run/walk, which starts and ends at the high school. The event, which falls on what would have been Brandon's 23rd birthday, will start at 2 p.m. Late registration and packet pick up will be available from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
The $20 fee includes a short-sleeved shirt, with long-sleeved shirts available for an extra $5.
