Quilters believe, display together
Illinois National Guard First Sergeant Brian Habel and St. Pius X Parish council member John Reynolds invite people to a St. Pius X Veterans' Day pancake breakfast to be held from 7:30 a.m. to noon Sunday, Nov. 11, at Farrell Hall, 2901 24th St., Rock Island. The breakfast will include pancakes, sausage, apple sauce, orange juice, milk and coffee. To honor all those who have served our country, the breakfast is free to veterans and active military. Adults are $6 and children are $4 or $20 for a family.

Silver Cross residents are participating in Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritanís Purse, a Christian international relief and evangelism organization headed by the Rev. Franklin Graham. Shoe box gifts are collected during National Collection Week Nov. 12Ė19. Many Quad Citiesí churches and businesses are participating. MOLINE -- A quilter's group at Christ the King Catholic Church will hold a quilt display from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 13, in theBelievers Together Center, 3209 60 St.
The quilters group was organized July 10, 2007, by Nancy Grandinetti. It has seven members, ages 65 – 88, who have met twice a month for the past five years, and has distributed more than 225 handmade quilts that have been distributed to homebound/shut-in parishioners, Family Resources, the Christ Child Society, nursing homes, and shelters for woman and children.
Group members also accept new 100 percent cotton quilting fabric to continue their work.
The group also has helped prepare 40 fleece Linus blankets for the Ronald McDonald House and for the church's annual Advent workshop.
Do they charge by the foot?
ROCK ISLAND -- Broadway Church, 710 23rd St., offers a monthly foot clinic from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on the first Monday of each month.
Two nurses will be available to soak peoples' feet, massage them with lotion, and trim toenails.
The clinic will cost $25.
People are asked to bring two towels along.

Evangelists fill church with living hope
DAVENPORT -- Living Hope Community Church, 216 West Hayes, will welcome two guest speakers as a part of its 10th anniversary celebration.
Impact Ministries International Evangelist Tom Stamman, from Apple Valley Minnesota will speak at 6 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 10, and at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.
Dr. Jon and Helen Jenkins will speak at 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 11, and at 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The Jenkins are from Troutman, N.C.
Child care will be available Sunday morning.

Meet Morrison Methodists at annual tour, bazaar
MORRISON --The Morrison United Methodist Church Home for the Holidays Bazaar committee will host its annual Holiday Home Tour from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 10.
Tickets will cost $10 each
The bazaar will feature locally made crafts, homemade pies, cookies, jams and candies. An annual Theme Basket Silent Auction also will be held. Bids will be announced at noon.
Breakfast at the Bazaar will be served from 7 to 10 a.m. Crafters will be available from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mexican fiesta hits the mark
SILVIS -- St. Mark's Church, 1550 7th Ave., will hold a Mexican Fiesta fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 10.
Meet new vicar the Rev. Peter Vaughn and his wife Linda Vaughn, andcelebrate St. Mark's 45th anniversary.
The event will cost $8 for adults $8; $5 for children under 12, or $20 for a family of four.

Poetry slam raises youth hopes, funds
ROCK ISLAND -- A 2012 Christian Friendliness YouthHope Poetry Slam fundraiser will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, The Establishment Theater, 220 19th St.
Doors will open at 5 p.m., followed by live poetry at 6 p.m.

ROCK ISLAND -- The Satva Center, 709 19th St., will offer ''A Day of Light'' presentation from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11.
Members of the Chicago Sukyo Mahikari Center, a non-profit organization of people who practice the ''Art of Giving Light'' will lead the presentations.
