Augustana hosts An Evening of Remembrance: A Salute to World War II Vets -
The Augustana Veterans Support Group will host an event to honor veterans of World War II on Thursday, November 15, at 7:00 pm in Larson Hall within Bergendoff Hall of Fine Arts, 3701 7th Avenue. The World War II veterans in attendance will be announced and all veterans will be recognized. Lt. Herb Wood, a World War II veteran who flew Hellcat fighters off the U.S.S. Yorktown. Wood will be sharing his memories with the audience. Following, there will be a reception with light refreshments. The event is free and open to the public. "Safe Porches" Strategy Meeting - Neighborhood Partners School Community Task Force is holding a public meeting on November 15, 2012 at 5:30 pm at the Rock Island Academy, 930 14th Street, to discuss a "Safe Porches" strategy for students walking and biking to school to Rock Island Academy and Frances Willard Elementary. Parents and community members in those school areas are invited to help with the planning. The Safe Porches strategy is a new component of the Safe Routes to School Travel Plans that was developed in 2010 by the schools, parents and community members.
