Sheffield event welcomes the holidays

Celebrate Sheffield will welcome the holidays on Saturday.

Twenty businesses will host open houses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the Bureau County town 45 miles east of the Quad-Cities on U.S. 6 and 34.

Free movies are planned at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. at the Sheffield Pride Arts Center. The Sheffield Public Library will have children's stories every half hour starting at 10:30 a.m., with live music and refreshments 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The First United Church of Christ will have cinnamon rolls, coffee and cider 10 a.m. to noon. St. Patrick's Catholic Church will offer a soup and sandwich luncheon. And the United Methodist Church will have a ham and turkey dinner starting at 5 p.m.

Tours of the Historic Danish Church and Sheffield Historic Museum will be offered 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other events include horse-drawn wagon rides, drawings for gift certificates, holiday treats and a free matinee at the Sheffield Pride Arts Center.
