A Moline woman has filed an arbitration suit against MetroLink transit system claiming she was injured when a bus rear-ended her vehicle.

Sheila K. King, of Moline, is seeking less than $50,000 in damages, according to the suit, which also names MetroLink employee John H. Pryor as a defendant.

The suit claims, on July 16, Ms. King was driving west on Kennedy Drive in East Moline, when she slowed to merge onto Avenue of the Cities, her vehicle was rear-ended by a MetroLink bus behind her.

The suit filed Thursday in Rock Island County Circuit Court claims the bus driver was negligent because he didn't slow down, look out for other vehicles or allow enough distance between the bus and Ms. King's car. Her attorney, Craig L. Kavnesky, said Ms. King suffered injuries to her neck, shoulders and head due to the accident and incurred medical expenses.

MetroLink risk manager Rick Ryckeghem on Monday termed the accident "a minor event."

"Hopefully we'll bring it to a resolution here in the next few weeks," he said.
