2012-13 Dispatch/Argus Area Girls' Runner of the Year: Monmouth-Roseville's Brittany Daniel

Monmouth-Roseville's Brittany Daniel came full circle in running at Peoria's Detweiller Park.
In her freshman season, Daniel made her first appearance at the Class 1A state cross country meet, finishing 111th (20:56) in helping the Titans' finished 17th as a team.
It wouldn't be until Daniel's senior season that she would get another chance to run at the state level.
In her final run, The Dispatch and The Rock Island Argus Area Girls' Runner of the Year had everything fall into place.Daniel ran a personal best 18:57 at the state meet and finished 55th to lead the Titans to a 13th-place team finish.
We caught up with her to talk about a sensational season.
What was your favorite moment over your career?
"When I went to state my freshman year, it was really fun and a great experience for me. That's why it was so exciting to go back again."
Favorite memory with your teammates?
"Regionals this season when the guys were running. The girls' team watched from a hill together and cheered them on."
What's your favorite part of cross country?
"The team. The way everyone interacts with each other and helps each other as we became good friends."
What would you say that you learned about yourself over your career?
"I didn't know that I could run as fast as I did at state. I thought that I was going to post the same times that I had through my high school career, but then I improved more every season."
What helped you improve so dramatically this season?
"I was more motivated this season because it's my last season. I think that made me better this season."
What was it like to have a great run at state?
"It was really exciting -- it was cool to come back my senior season. I felt like my run represented my cross country career and my school well."
What surprised you most this season?
"My goal time was to get into around 19:30, so when I first got 19:33, I was really excited."
What makes you an elite athlete?
"The ability to push myself."
