Twing, Ranson earn second team All-State volleyball honors
Comment on this story
A pair of the Quad-Cities' area's top prep volleyball talents were recognized as second team All-State selections by the Champaign News-Gazette. Rock Island senior setter Jacqueline Twing and Orion senior libero McKenzie Ranson both earned second-team honors for all classes. Two more area standouts — Orion senior middle hitter Cassidy Clark and Riverdale senior setter Hannah Nimrick — were placed on the Special Mention 50 squad. Twing was the catalyst for a Rocky team that won a school-record 30 times in 36 matches, finishing second to Quincy in the Western Big 6 Conference race. Both Ranson and Clark played crucial roles for a Charger squad that shared the West Central North crown with Sherrard and went on to post a 31-5-1 record, eventually falling to Riverdale in the Class 2A sectional finals. For its part, Riverdale made program history behind the steady play of Nimrick, finishing 34-4 and reaching the IHSA State Tournament in Normal for the first time, where it finished in third place. — Staff report
