Eldridge native Angela Campbell has been named new director of the Rock Island Library.

Ms. Campbell has been director of the Glenwood Public Library in Iowa for the past two years. She will begin work at the Rock Island Library on Jan. 21, a statement from the library said.

Ms. Campbell was public relations and programming coordinator of the Davenport Public Library from 2005 to 2011 and was that library's reference and book discussion coordinator from 1997 to 2005.

She graduated from Dominican University in 1997 with a Master's in Library and Information Science. She and her husband Daniel currently live in Tabor, Iowa.

"I'm excited to return home to the Quad-Cities," Ms. Campbell said. "Rock Island Public Library is already a great library. My goals are to provide leadership that will inspire staff to grow our services, and to listen to our public to provide the services they need."

Ms. Campbell's hiring follows a four-month search by executive search firm Bradbury Associates/Gossage Sager Associates of Kansas City, Mo.

The library board of trustees reviewed 22 applications for the position.

Library board president Cynthia Lukasik said the board was impressed by Ms. Campbell's vision and experience.

"We look forward to the many contributions we believe Ms. Campbell will make to the city of Rock Island,"Ms. Lukasik said.

Ava Ketter retired in May after 13 years as the library's director.
