State's attorney to look at high school hazing

Comment on this story

DES PLAINES, Ill. (AP) — Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez has ordered her office's sex crimes division to investigate allegations of hazing incidents at a suburban Chicago high school.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that Alvarez's spokeswoman Sally Daly declined to say what specifically what the office would look at, but that both recent incidents and incidents that occurred years ago at Maine West High School in Des Plaines would be reviewed.

Des Plaines police and Maine Township High School District 207 have been investigating reports that two 14-year-old boys on the freshman soccer team were sexually assaulted in September as part of a hazing ritual. Five juveniles have been charged with misdemeanor battery and a sixth was charged in connection to another incident that occurred during a summer soccer camp.
