CAMBRIDGE -- Judge Charles "Casey" Stengel on Monday found probable cause to believe Dariuce Wilson, 32, of Hartford, Conn., and Thomas White, 38, of Sacramento, Calif., committed cannabis-related felonies.
According to testimony by Illinois State Police Trooper Shawn Veryzer at a preliminary hearing in Henry County Circuit Court, an eastbound vehicle was stopped Dec. 2 on Interstate 80 about three miles east of Geneseo for twice crossing the center line and coming close to another vehicle while trying to pass it.
Trooper Veryzer said he smelled a strong odor of cannabis from the SUV and a slight odor of burnt cannabis and asked the driver, Mr. Wilson, to come back to his squad car while he waited for backup. He said he read Mr. Wilson his rights, and Mr. Wilson admitted to having a bag of marijuana in his passenger compartment.
The trooper said a search of the vehicle found about 11 pounds of cannabis in two plastic containers, a large glass container and a plastic garbage bag.
Mr. White said all of the cannabis was his, and Mr. Wilson had no knowledge of it. Mr.. Wilson also said he had no knowledge of anything other than the small baggie.
The two were in the Henry County Jail on Monday afternoon on $100,000 bond.
