Alice E. DeWitte, 101, of Silvis, formerly of Port Byron, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Silvis. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday with a rosary preceding at 10 a.m. at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron. Burial will be at the St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Rapids City. Memorials may be made to the Crosstown Square Activities Fund, Silvis.
Alice was born April 23, 1911, in East Moline, the daughter of Leonard and Romanie Theunick DeRuytter. She married Emile J. DeWitte on Jan. 21, 1931, in Rapids City.
Alice helped her husband farm and was a homemaker. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Silvis. She was always very meticulous. Her hobbies included embroidery, cooking, baking and gardening, and in her later years she enjoyed jig saw puzzles. Alice was also a dedicated volunteer at Crosstown Square during her years as a resident there.
She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Jerry Guinn, East Moline, Joann and Ronald Bolk, Port Byron, and Joyce and Michael Bush, Port Byron; and a granddaughter, Cynthia Guinn, East Moline. Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Emile in 1996; sisters, Marie Hoste and Emma Deopere; and a brother, Frank DeRuytter.
