** Quad Cities is a Winter Resort for Eagles
When the winter blues set in this year, it's time to come to the Quad Cities for bald eagle watching along the Mississippi River. The annual Bald Eagle Days is January 11-13, 2013, at the QCCA Expo Center, 2621 4th Ave. in Rock Island, Ill. It is the largest event in the Midwest dedicated to the United States' national symbol of freedom. Live eagle programs, exhibits, and Pella's Wolf Show. Hours: 4-8 pm Fri.; 10 am-8 pm Sat.; 10 am-5 pm Sun. Admission: $5 adults; $1 youth. **WHAT'S NEW - Center Ice at Bass Street Landing is a new outdoor public skating rink that opened on Sunday at 1601 River Drive in downtown Moline, Illinois. It is a seasonal ice rink 65-foot-wide, 120-foot-long just installed from December through mid-April. There are skate rentals and concessions available. Skaters can choose a 90-minute session, and it's open at night for skating under the lights. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. www.CenterIce-BassStreet.com

** Chocolate Festival Offers Free Samples
Indulge yourself on Sunday, Jan. 13 from 11 am-4 pm as chocolate is the main focus at this festival at the Quad City Botanical Center, 2525 4th Ave. in Rock Island, Ill. There will be lots of free samples, special guest Willy Wonka, kid's chocolate activity center, and see a live chocolate tree growing in the center's Sun Garden. Admission: $15 adults; $3 kids 3-15.
