Diana D. Polk, 69, of East Moline, died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27, at Sullivan-Ellis Mortuary, East Moline, where a rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. The Rev. Donald Levitt will lead the rosary. Diana's visitation will be two hours before services at 1 p.m. at St. Luke Christian Methodist Episcopal Church in Champaign, Ill., on Friday, Dec. 28, with burial following at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Champaign.
Diana was born in Decatur, Ala., the daughter of Herman and Ruth Ewing Blackwell. She earned her master's degree in library and information sciences from the University of Illinois and was senior executive research librarian for Deere and Co. for 26 years, retiring in 2000.
She was very involved in the community. Diana was on the board of the Rock Island County Health Department, chairman of the board of directors for Project NOW, was in the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and QC Negro Heritage Society.
She is survived by her son, Henry, East Moline; brothers, Robert (Caroline) Blackwell, Springfield, Victor (Kim) Blackwell, Chicago; sisters, Dorothy Coleman, Milwaukee, Wis., Doris (Stanley) Butts, Champaign, Wilma Julia Conwell, Cleveland, Ohio, Clara Jean (Samuel) Johnson, Decatur, Ala., Mabel Blackwell, Chicago, Ave Blackwell Alvarado, Champaign; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Duane W. Blackwell and William Nelson Blackwell.
